Note: Current sign-ups are always available from the MMS Newsletter.

Families at Midtown Montessori School are required to earn community hours during the school year by contributing to the betterment of the school. It is recommended that you plan to earn around half of the hours or more during the first semester in order to avoid running out of time to complete the required amount of hours near the end of the school year. Please note that there is a ten hour limit on possible hours earned per event/donated item.

Any outstanding hours will be billed at a rate of $15/hour at the end of the school year.

Opportunities to Earn Community Hours

Be sure to check the MMS Newsletter each week for new opportunities to earn community hours as well as links to ongoing sign ups such as the ones listed below. Other family members such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends are welcome to contribute community hours on behalf of your student, as well.

  • Parent Education Events - Includes certain meetings and events like Silent Journey. NOTE: Each family member can earn hours at the same time when attending events. (Hours vary depending on event.)

  • Volunteer On-Site - Sign-up to help out on-site with tasks such as dusting, paper cutting, laminating, data entry, shelving books, etc.

  • Laundry / Mat Washing / Flowers - You can volunteer for any classroom's laundry, etc. Volunteer through Sign Up Genius links included in weekly newsletters.

  • Pet Food: Drop off veggies for the pets (1 hour.)

  • Other: Additional opportunities arise throughout the school year. Families are informed of these events through email and the newsletter.

Keeping Track of Hours

MMS Library will usually include a link to a document listing each family’s current hours count. A few times throughout the school year, Cat will email each family a detailed Community Hours Report. Families will also receive updates and reminders a few times throughout the year regarding the number of hours that have been recorded for their family. You’re always welcome to email Cat to inquire about your family’s community hours.

If you have any questions or concerns about earning community hours or would like to know your family’s current total, email Cat.
